Balvenie Speyside Whisky Distillery
William Grant (A Giant of the Scottish Whisky Industry) built the Balvenie distillery in the shadow of Balvenie Castle in 1892, the water source is shared with the global giant Glenfiddich. As they say ‘there must be something in the water’ with Balvenie becoming a huge success in recent years resulting in Balvenie becoming the 9th best-selling whisky brand. This was due in part to a haul of Gold Medals won at the 2006 International Spirit awards. The following all winning awards at the event Balvenie Portwood 1991, DoubleWood 12 Year Old, Founder’s Reserve 10 Year Old, Balvenie Thirty, Balvenie New Wood 17 Year Old, and PortWood 21 Year Old.
Although a neighbour of Glenfiddich Balvenie has a hugely different character utilising various sherry, bourbon, and even rum casks to give that after diner sweet luxury taste. This is a whisky to watch out for and seems to be on an unstoppable march forward.
Taste: A richness and complexity you only get from a Balvenie, this is a polished whisky.
