Famous Grouse Blended Whisky
‘The Famous Grouse’ was born from a family of grocers in Perth, Scotland. The earliest record is of a Matthew Gloag who was asked by the royal household to provide wine for a banquet in Perth to be attended by Queen Victoria. In 1860 his son William took over the business and started to venture into blending whisky, it was his son Matthew who created the Grouse blend in 1897. His daughter is credited with drawing the Grouse which has become internationally recognisable the world over. This was later to become ‘The Famous Grouse’. The business of Matthew Gloag & Sons Ltd was sold to Highland distillers in 1970 after the death of Matthew Frederick Gloag.
The Famous Grouse experience is based at Glenturret scotch whisky distillery which provides one of the important ingredients and claims to be Scotland’s oldest working distillery.
