The Islay Festival of Malt and Music or Feis Ile (Scots Gaelic)has been growing since its inception in 1986 when the local population of the great whisky producing island decided their history, heritage and culture was worth celebrating. This week long festival starting on the last weekend in May brings a wonderful combination of fine whisky and music which will get you up shaking your stuff at one of the ceilidhs on Islay.
The distilleries of course play their part with tastings and classes and those not open to the public have spring clean and let everyone through their doors. Special events will be listed on their websites. Feis Ile includes sporting events ,children’s entertainment, guided walks, concerts and a very friendly atmosphere. Accommodation during the whisky festival will be at a premium so book early and join celebrating this island community and their peaty history.
