Inchgower Speyside Whisky Distillery
Initially meant as a replacement for Tonicheal distillery founded by Alexander Wilson, Inchgower was built by his nephew in 1871. Rumour has it the landlord at Tonicheal doubled the rent so Alexander made other plans. All the equipment from Tonicheal was moved to Inchgower which was considered a model of a modern distillery at the time. Alexander Wilson & Co went out of business in the late 1920’s and Buckie council took over the distillery. You can’t imagine the local government buying a whisky distillery these days! It only lasted until 1936 when whisky giant Arthur Bell & Sons took on Inchgower. Like many of its contemporaries after a succession of takeovers Inchgower is now in the Diageo stable. As a result most of the whisky produced at Inchgower goes into famous blends such as Johnnie Walker, Bells and White Horse.
Only 1% of the whisky produced at Inchgower goes into single malt the most affordable and easily available was part of Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range.
Taste: This fresh golden 14 year old single malt whisky has a jasmine tea taste with a hint of liquorish with a clean finish.
